Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.

-Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein sought balance. What do you think relativity deals with? To what percentages are space and time in balance or not? He has a lot of enchanting and fascinating quotes; I look forward to referencing many of them across many posts.

For now, though, balance should be critical in all that we do, not just when riding a bike, literally or proverbially, through life. Even earlier this morning, was I fully balanced when walking through one doorway? No, my left side grazed the frame. I cannot begin to count the number of times that I have stubbed and probably broken a pinky toe (typically my left one) on random things like table or chair legs.1 What is the common denominator among many, if not all, of these occurrences? Some will say it is not being focused, sure, but what is focus? It is balance – balance of mind and racing thoughts (or ideally lack thereof) versus the present moment, here and now. Is my soul within my body, or am I drifting elsewhere? When walking around a home or through a restaurant, I can tell you one thing. You get brought back into your body REAL QUICK once you stub a poor little piggy severely. I pity the fool who does it repeatedly. Learn and grow from your errors. Listen to the lessons. Please find your inner and outer balance. Do what you want and will with these words; they are only a sugjestion. Is it wise? Is it dumb? Time will tell…

Balance, to me, is key. I seek perfect balance. I do not know if I will ever attain it; perhaps it is truly unattainable. I will try my hardest, though, and that is good enough for me. The catch-22 here is that I need to balance out my efforts and endeavors to perfect balance. Else, where would the balance be there? I strive to have it anywhere and everywhere…

in a shop, with a cop. At a fair, in the middle of a town square, amid lots of fanfare.

Balance eventually paves the way to equanimity.

Therein rests much calm, joy, and tranquil, pristine peace.

I will discuss equanimity in a future cycle, probably sometime soon.

Please keep moving, listening, improving, and growing.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.2

  1. I find it kind of funny to now think about one “leg” or foot attacking another when out of balance. ↩︎
  2. FWIW – I do not tire of this phrase because it is fitting; it feels balanced to me. ↩︎
