Mournday – 060324

Today, as the world keeps spinning, I choose to mourn for it. This post is the first time I will talk about it, but I doubt it will be the last time. We, as humans, are destroying Earth. We are currently living in such an imbalanced way as it pertains to this planet. The fact that many, mostly on the conservative side, choose to blatantly and blindly ignore all of the warning signs astounds me. Honestly, can you shove your smooth brain any further down into the sand? How are you even still breathing? Maybe Mitch McConnell really does have turtle-like superpowers that enable him to breathe through his skin. I doubt it, but I am thankfully not existing within his frozen shell. I imagine Marjorie will blame space lasers or some similarly-foolish BS before Green(e)house gases. When will it finally click? Do we need to lose countless amounts of our current coastal land first, or do we need to start waiting out scorching heat waves indoors? Spoiler alert – that basically already happens when Canadian wildfires run awry based on how they affect our AQI.

I want to highlight Switzerland here, specifically the Swiss Elders for Climate Protection. I applaud the two thousand women there who stood up and fought for themselves (in the RIGHT, IDEAL, or BEST WAY). They saw and felt the difference in their lives, and they took positive action. They earned their fair share by defending their basic human rights.

I am in awe of them and view them as role models. We can learn a lot from them if we listen. Now is the time to keep balancing out the climate equation. We will not fix it overnight, but we can at least stop making it worse and start moving the needle back.

I will include another phenomenal highlight here. There is a company working on some cool (heh) tech. They want to go under the ice in the Arctic Ocean and help it refreeze.

“Drill, baby, drill” is not the answer, despite what he-who-should-not-be-named thinks. IMO, that is the half-baked plan of a baby who thinks they are still puttering around a playground with Tonka toys. I can only imagine who all has a hand deep in his pocket. For all of our sakes, we need to leave oil alone, as best as we can and as soon as we can.

Even within this past week, I have now seen more studies released related to rivers changing colors. Beautiful, blue rivers are turning sickly orange in Alaska. Colorado has observed similar changes happening from the Rocky Mountains. To me, it feels like we are shifting the global scale of natural order out of balance. We continue to damage this world in bad ways. We need to start shifting that scale back while we still can. Else, while we are not the first, we may in fact be the last humanoid species here on Earth.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.

One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.
