Inquisitive vs. Indubitable

Inquisitive (adjective) – given to inquiry, research, or asking questions; eager for knowledge; intellectually curious

Indubitable (adjective) – that cannot be doubted; patently evident or certain; unquestionable

I think very few things should be considered indubitable; I choose to remain inquisitive about almost anything and everything. Sure, the sun will rise, and it will fall. Time will forever tick on. Those things can easily be considered indubitable. However, in my past, my tendency to be too trusting of others has burned me too many times, so I need to be more inquisitive instead. It is good to be childlike, but that does not mean you should be naive. If you are reading this right now, then you were not born yesterday, so do not act like it. Be playful, but do so wisely. That is what I sugjest at least. Please be inquisitive with my sugjestions; they are not indubitable. I reserve the right to revise intermittently.

To circle back to one point, I want to say that it is worthwhile to trust others in the right amounts. Be inquisitive from the start, though. As someone who enjoys playing poker on occasion, the following quote jumped to mind as I started to write this interjection out:

If you’re playing a poker game and you look around the table and can’t tell who the sucker is, it’s you.

-Paul Newman

This quote is rather harsh, but I think it is important. I wish everyone would operate from a default of being friends with one another, but that is not the way our world works right now. People talk about a “dog eat dog” world or a cutthroat society. I will do my best to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but that does not mean I am also going to show you all the cards that I am holding right out of the gate. Trust is earned with effort in due time. An inquisitive nature can help develop discernment; asking questions and digging deeper can get to bottom of things. If you trust things at “face value”, then what even is it that you are trusting – a possible facade or farce? Maybe. I like to get to the root of things.

My mind enjoys exploring many rabbit holes of possibilities. I like questioning seemingly-indubitable facts or alternate facts because it keeps me on my toes; it maintains curiosity. It is indubitable that we each have our own life to live; be inquisitive with what you let in.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell. Stay curious, y’all :) <3
