I am thankful for Queen Lear. Truthfully, it is Lear deBessonet who I am thankful for, but I did not want to pass up on that playful possibility. First, I believe, early on in her life, Lear predicted and persistently pursued her passion as a theater director. That is a wonderful truth in and of itself for her to discover and dedicate herself to. My mind is in awe of her. Truthfully, I grapple with a little jealousy, too, but I am mostly overjoyed for her. Who cares if it took me longer to warm up to my passion? I am here now, and that is truly enough. I want as many people as possible to point their passions out and pursue them persistently please. Perhaps a pivot will productively power up our people and planet.
It is a beautiful truth that all men contain something of the artist in them.
-Walt Whitman
Second, I believe there is a beautiful truth to art. Hearing the numerous stories of how people lived better and fuller lives as a result of acting in community theater astounds me. Connecting with others and exploring perspectives beyond your day-to-day norm expands your experience and expounds your potential. It is difficult to not be engaged while immersed in a role onstage. It supports active presence, known as mindfulness.
Art is truth.
Art heals.
Therefore,
according to the transitive property,
truth heals?
Very often, ‘what happened’ takes years to reveal itself. It takes courage to confront our actions, peel back the layers of trauma in our lives, and expose the raw truth of our past. But this is where healing begins.
-Oprah Winfrey
Maybe truth does not heal you in the short-term if it initially opens a wound you have avoided, but I believe it is better to work through any pain in order to work on improving yourself rather than covering up the truth and pretending to be peachy. Why hold on to unnecessary weight of the past if you can free yourself from those burdens and surpass?
It’s very important that we pursue truth in our artwork. You change the world by being yourself.
-Yoko Ono
Spend some time this week looking in the mirror, mainly figuratively but maybe literally. Are you living your true life? Are you being your best self? Is there something new that you want to try? What kind of art might you want to explore? Adult coloring books can be a good starting point. They are very relaxing and therapeutic if you want to try it out.

Study and in general the pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.
-Albert Einstein
