Mournday – 110424

I mourn for all the workaholics out there. Burnout is a very real deal, and many people suffer from it due to their inability to reliably regulate their rest. What is left when you are nothing but a husk? How productive can you perpetually prove to be without rest?

When we’re burned out, sometimes we simply need to rest.
But other times, instead of just unplugging, we actually need to find a different power source to help us recharge.

-Jay Shetty

You cannot continuously pour from a glass that is already empty. How can you refill it first? Do you work so much to avoid something else? Is it your hope to stay so busy that you do not have to face some fact? Run all you like, but the messy, internal work will still be there, ready and waiting. Harmonize with it when you are ready. Learn from it, and grow through it. It is not easy, but it is worth it. Be careful; rest can be quite powerful.

We have to face the pain we have been running from. In fact, we need to learn to rest in it and let its searing power transform us.

-Charlotte Joko Beck

Maybe you say you are too busy. There is too much to get done, and you do not have the time. We can make plenty of these excuses, or we can carve out the time to prioritize our own well-being in order to be as effective as possible for as long as possible. If you are feeling very stressed or overwhelmed, then that is when rest is critical. Ideally before.

The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.

-Sydney J. Harris

Our time sheets will not be checked in the afterlife.

Rest, relax, and avoid some of the business strife.

Burnout can cut through you quicker than a knife.

Countless options are out there; the world is rife.

you are not helping well
if you are doing so to the point
of exhaustion and burnout

love doesn’t mean giving
until you have nothing left

if you are taking it this far,
that’s a sign that self-love is lacking

tend to your own needs
and return to balance

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
