self-effacing (adjective) – tending to make oneself, one’s actions, etc, inconspicuous, especially because of humility or timidity; modest

“Humility is an emotion that arises when we recognize our limitations, imperfections, and interdependence with others. It can manifest as a sense of openness, curiosity, or gratitude. Humility can be a powerful emotion, helping us to learn from others, connect with them, and grow as individuals.”

What if we all simply started doing more of the right things because they are the right things for us to be doing? I think that would be nice. We do not need credit or recognition to continue completing our best next steps. We can embrace and enjoy our personal, humble lifestyles because we can rest easier knowing that we are giving each day our all. How humble are you being if you seek a reward as a result of each of your actions? Strengthening your own self-esteem can enable you to become more self-effacing.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
