mettle vs. meddle

mettle (noun) – courage and fortitude; disposition or temperament

meddle (verb) – to involve oneself in a matter without right or invitation; interfere officiously and unwantedly

Meld your mettle.

Be slow to meddle.

What is your metal?

Will you earn a medal?

Are you working on your mettle, or are you busy meddling in other lanes? Do not make excuses; do not try to justify the latter in lieu of the former. Meddling can feel more fun in the short-term, but molding your mettle enables you to better help yourself and others. Everyone will benefit from your impactful improvement instead of impeding impudence.

Fortitude… it means fixity of purpose. It means endurance. It means having the strength to live with what constrains you.

-Hilary Mantel

We may see how others can live better, but it is their choice as far as how they best manage their lane. To be fully open and honest here, I struggle with this a lot. This site gives me great practice at sharing my thoughts without involuntarily forcing my opinions on others. I benefit by building my mettle without meddling. Others also benefit from my mindful improvement. For anyone who sees this content and chooses to read it, they will learn whatever they glean. Maybe it will help them fortify fortitude, too, while fixing any fixations to try to fix others without first checking what the other person actually wants.

Need medal?

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
