exuberant vs. deficient

exuberant (adjective) – effusively and almost uninhibitedly enthusiastic; abounding in vitality; extremely joyful and vigorous

deficient (adjective) – lacking some element or characteristic; insufficient; inadequate

Can you wake up full of joy,

or do you grumble aloud “oh boy”?

Does sun streaming in bring delight,

or do you try to shut your eyes tight?

As others begin to stir and make noise,

how peaceful and present is your poise?

Do you slow down and savor your breakfast,

or are you already too busy acting headless?

Can you pause and admire the view,

or do you trudge along with no clue?

What all is pleasing to your senses

if you forego all habitual pretenses?

Are you calm and content when you crawl into bed,

or are your thoughts running wild through your head?

Can you replay a tale of awe and discovery,

or do you relive certain horrors and drudgery?

Can you embrace your life as exuberant,

or do you see this existence as deficient?

Beauty can be yours to behold.

Judge carefully what is truly gold.

Do not buy everything that is sold.

Ignore the voices that are too bold.

Listen mainly to the wise and old.

The best way to live is oft foretold.

Beauty does not fit a standard mold.

Tend to your lane with warmth, not cold.

Then beauty will surely be yours to behold.

Exuberance is beauty.

-William Blake

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
