rejuvenate vs. enervate

rejuvenate (verb) – to restore to youthful vigor, appearance, etc.; to make fresh or new again

enervate (verb) – to deprive of force or strength; to destroy the vigor of; to weaken

We naturally enervate throughout each day. Random issues and stressors pop up as we go about our lives. If we choose to, we can carve out time in our days to reverse that process and rejuvenate our energy levels. No one should be forced to work constantly. Reasonable hours and shifts exist for this reason. We are more than our jobs. Time to rest helps us reflect and remember that fact. Do you choose to consciously rejuvenate daily?

Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitations of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.

-Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Do not constantly enervate

Plan daily time to rejuvenate

Learn to listen to your body

If you want to avoid bedrotty

That does not feel like rest

More of a depression test

What activity brings you joy?

Plan downtime for that toy

Slow down, pause, and breathe

Peaceful, quiet, gentle ease

In those moments, listen deep

Unlock secrets that you keep

The world whispers all around

Yet too busily we often abound

Do not constantly enervate

Plan daily time to rejuvenate

Stop saying rest is a luxury or a privilege. It is not – it’s a human right… it gives us the space to embody and live in divinity.

-Tricia Hersey

You should not feel guilty for taking time to rest. It may take some getting used to if it is new for you, but you can show up better in others areas of your life if you prioritize effective, loving self-care. Rest may just be the next best thing awaiting you.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
