Thanksday – 101724

With harmony in mind, I want to express a general thankfulness for all music. I have yet to discover a style of it that I cannot appreciate on at least some level. While all music may not resonate on the same plane or in a similar fashion, it is a pure form of creation. We collaborate and collect through various vibrations. We can create many harmonies.

We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.

-Roald Dahl

Music serves as an easy entrypoint to encouraging harmony. Do you want to deal with dissonance, or do you prefer harmonious melody? The choice is simple for me; it entices me to expand my exploration of the concept. What other areas of my life are currently dissonant? How can I better harmonize with my surroundings, both internally and externally? How well am I listening to my own body as well as to those around me? Some things we hear will not be relevant to us, at least on a literal level; we have the choice to determine which harmonies best resonate with us. We can feel what flows.

My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary.

-Martin Luther

Similarly, life ebbs and flows. We have happy moments and sad moments, joyous occasions and upsetting events. Music serves as a sounding board for me; I want to dance to upbeat jams when I feel good, and I prefer soothing instrumental tracks when I am trying to relax. The reinforcements allow me to tune back in to better and fuller harmonies with all that I am, do, and interact with. Are you aware of your harmonies? Do you stack them atop one another, or is it all in disarray? It is hard to harmonize when discombobulated and frayed. Slow down, step back, and tune in more. Maybe even pray.

Music is one of the healthiest forms of transcendence and magic.

I am very thankful for music.

It could be the first human art.

Listen to the music.

Hone your harmonies.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
