Have you ever wondered… about mudras? I have. For today, the focus will be on the prithvi mudra which corresponds with the earth element and aids us in becoming more grounded. As a result, we can better and more easily practice patience in such a state of grounded calmness. For the prithvi mudra, the tips of your ring fingers should touch the tips of your thumbs. The other three fingers on each hand should point straight outward. Do not hold any tension in any of the fingers. Then, ease into a peaceful and patient state.

The secret of patience is to do something else in the meantime.

-Croft M. Pentz

Even the act of practicing the prithvi mudra (or other mudras) as you focus on meditating more can be extremely helpful with dispelling impatience. What if some of these recent athletes adjusted their attention to such an amiable attitude instead of still squabbling amongst one another? I know it is easier said than done when the endorphins are so flooded, but it is at least one better approach for those stressful situations. Countless improvements for such scenarios exist if they only begin to brainstorm better behavior.

Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.

-Joyce Meyer

Mudras even help me outside of meditation. When I feel myself becoming too emotional in a moment, whether it be too low into sadness or fear or too high into joy or excitement, a quick tap of some fingers together into a brief mudra can serve as a helpful reminder that I am beginning to get carried away by my own emotions. I can breathe, slow down, and be patient again with all that is unfolding around me. Patience prompts persistent, personal practice. Perfecting it is not the point. Perpetually improving it provides power.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell. Stay wondrous, y’all :)
