venerate vs. irreverent

venerate (verb) – to deeply respect or revere, often in a religious or sacred context

irreverent (adjective) – not reverent; deficient in veneration or respect

Respect is an important and virtuous trait,

one to which we should all reliably relate.

Being kind to everything on our path,

paying our respects requires no math.

You could be rude; you could be irreverent,

but do you want to look back and lament?

Why not be a polite dame or a polished gent?

Listen to and learn your golden covenant.

Which ideal attitudes should we cultivate?

What will work well, making others venerate?

Please note that the attention is not the goal,

though certainly a fringe blessing to behold.

Presently and persistently apply respect.

Do not only consider it in retrospect.

Think about what benefits all involved.

Then, what problems can be solved?

By mutual respect, understanding and with good will, we can find acceptable solutions to any problems which exist or may arise between us.

-Dwight D. Eisenhower

Respect is easy. It does not take much.

Simply choose to be more aware and in touch

with what you do and what surrounds you.

Mindfully being present gifts the best clue.

Your presence pays respect to you and others.

Do not check out on your sisters and brothers.

Each moment is unique; no second comes twice,

so we all might as well keep on being nice.

Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
