Do you feel like you have something to prove? Does that feeling justify your supposed need to look big or sound loud? How often do we try to present ourselves in the best light? What if we stopped caring so much about what others think and focused on our own thoughts and feelings? How much gentler can we all be with nothing to prove?
Your gentleness shall force more than your force move us to gentleness.
-William Shakespeare
Think about it. Are you posturing for attention? Do you care more about impressing others than finding and fulfilling your personal purpose? I now think we can and should be gentle when aligned well with our reason for being here. By focusing on what truly matters, the rest begins to matter less. Then, we will be able to find more rest, and that calm can allow us to move forward with more gentleness while feeling less distress.
Gentleness is strength under control. It is the ability to stay calm, no matter what happens.
-Elizabeth George
Quietly sitting out in nature has become one of my favorite pastimes to decompress and destress from daily issues and struggles. When I connect with my surroundings more and appreciate where I am at and what all I have already done, I feel less driven to achieve for the sake of sheer productivity alone. Instead, my inner drive feels pure and patient. I can gently endure so many more challenges. Life may move quickly, but I choose my pace.
Awaken the gentleness within you.
-Asad Meah
I struggled with being outdoors some at first; I got annoyed and distracted by each passing car or noisy neighbor. So, I had to be gentler with my surroundings and what I expected of it all. Now, I can see a bigger picture and appreciate the variety of noises and movements going by. Even the loud subwoofers no longer bother me at any time of the day or night. I believe we can all find ways towards authentic gentleness eventually.
Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell.
