Have you ever wondered… about lucid dreaming? I have. One of my teachers sugjested I circle back to this practice within the past year. I had explored it halfheartedly in the past, but it has been very different for me this time around. After reading one of Charlie Morley’s books about lucid dreaming, I began to experience and work with it in a surprisingly short amount of time. What a difference a wholehearted effort can make.
It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.
-Robert H. Goddard
To be fully honest and transparent, I woke up from one lucid dream screaming when I walked through a wall for the first time. It was very jarring and scary for my brain to process something that it had once thought of as impossible. Now, as I have repeatedly adjusted and expanded my understanding and expectations, I can pursue my next daring feat while in a lucid dream state. Pushing the limits of my dreams in positive ways improves my ability to be more confident with new ways to present myself out in public.
Everything I’ve ever done that’s valuable is something I was terrified to try.
-Amy Chua
If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.
-Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
Do you know who benefits dramatically from learning lucid dreaming? People who suffer from PTSD. Numerous research studies detail the improvements in overall well-being as a result of learning and engaging in this healing practice. It should not be used carelessly or recklessly. We can actually rewire our brains and heal past traumas if we lucid dream effectively. Meeting our shadow, integrating more of our own being, is yet another option.
Why do the easy, expected thing? It takes guts to follow your dreams. Courage. Half the fun is venturing into the unknown, taking on the difficult task that yields new knowledge.
-Marshall Ulrich
I still have some scary dreams from time to time. They teach me plenty about myself and the next steps for me to work on. I dream of eventually being able to love any and all of the dreams that I experience most nights. If I can hug and love a zombie, then that will be a zenith. Lucid dreaming helps me become better and more whole as a result of the additional opportunities for healing and spiritual practices that it provides me with. By being productive with more of my time, it certainly feels like a wise move to maintain.
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes.
-Carl Jung
There are many strategies and techniques that you can learn and leverage to induce and invoke lucid dreams. We can all achieve such activity if we are willing to attempt anew. Will lucid dreaming be your next dream in life? I sugjest looking into it if it intrigues you.
Maybe it is wise. Maybe it is dumb. Time will tell. Stay wondrous, y’all <3
